Chandigarh, October 5: Ahead of the Dussehra celebrations on Wednesday, some unknown miscreants set the effigy of Meghnad at the Sector 46 ground on fire.


Reportedly, the effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnad set up at Chandigarh's Sector 46 ground is one of the tallest in the city. Ravan effigy is 92 feet, while the effigies of Kumbhkaran and Meghnath are 85-foot and 82-foot tall respectively. After the effigy of Meghnad was set ablaze, the fire brigade was rushed to put out the fire. However, half of the effigy was destroyed.

Now, only two effigies - Ravana and Kumbhkaran - will be burnt during celebrations.

Meanwhile, the Dussehra committee has filed a complaint with the police regarding the incident. In a similar incident, the Ravana effigy set up at the Ramleela Dussehra ground in Derabassi was set ablaze ahead of the celebrations. According to reports, stones were also hurled at the stage.


Following the incident, the Dussehra committee accused the police of being negligent because no security personnel were there. Slogans were also raised against the Punjab Police.
