Mansa court summons Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, 8 others in defamation case
Chandigarh, April 30: The Mansa Court has issued fresh summons to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in connection with a defamation case filed against him by former MLA Nazar Singh Manshahia, when the former used to be a Sangrur MP. The summon is returnable by July 21, 2022. Manshahia, who left the Aam Aadmi Party for the Congress on April 25, 2019, stated that two days after joining the Congress, then Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann held a press conference in Sangrur and accused him of switching parties in exchange for Rs 10 crore and the chairmanship of the Punjab Pollution Control Board. Also Read | After clashes, Punjab govt transfers Patiala IG, SSP, and SP When Manshahia challenged Mann to prove the allegations or apologise, he received no response and filed a criminal defamation suit against him (Mann) and others in Mansa court on July 30, 2019, under sections 500 (defamation), 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and 66E, 67 of the Information Technology Act. Mann "should have come with proof to support his allegations, which he had made purely on political grounds," Manshahia stated. His counsel, Gurdeep Singh Manshahia, stated that summons were previously issued to Mann on November 30, 2021, but were unserved and Mann failed to appear before the court.
