Man commits suicide in police custody in Punjab's Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur, February 19: A man allegedly died by suicide in police custody at the Tanda police station in Hoshiarpur district, informed police officials on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar from Dasuya. The 40-year-old man was allegedly detained on Friday at around 3:30 pm on the suspicion of theft. As per sources, the man was investigated and was forced to star in an investigation room. Following this, the man allegedly hanged himself to death. The deceased's wife, however, has claimed that her husband did not commit suicide. She claimed that Rakesh was brutally beaten by police, which lead to his death. The family of the deceased are demanding strict actions against the culprits. Superintendent of Police Mukhtiar Rai stated that police have registered a case against a head constable and three other policemen for negligence in connection with the suicide incident.
