World Radio Day 2023: History, significance and theme
World Radio Day 2023: Even after ages, radio is still being widely used as a means of communication. Every year on February 13, World Radio Day is celebrated. But are you aware about its history, significance and theme for 2023?
Notably, World Radio Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. The first International Radio Conference was held in Geneva in 1974.

As per information, February 13 was chosen to be celebrated as World Radio Day as it was the day of the establishment of the United Nations Radio in 1946.
History of Radio
Italian physicist and inventor Guglielmo Marconi had invented the radio in 1895. He was the first to develop a successful system of wireless communication. Today, it has revolutionised the way people receive and share information via radio. People use it for news, entertainment, connecting communities and even for educational content. It continues to pay a key role in exchange of information as well as entertainment.
Significance of World Radio Day
Radio is considered as fast and cost-effective way of communication, which can be used even in far-flung areas. It is still capable of reaching out to marganalised sections of society.
Theme for 2023
The theme for World Radio Day changes each year . In 2023, the theme for the World Radio Day is “Radio and Peace” which aims to focus on the importance of independent radio to foster peace and prevent conflict.
