Sawan 2024: 'Sawan' also known as 'Shravan' is considered as one of the holiest month of the Hindu lunar calendar is around the corner.

Every Monday during this period is regarded as a highly auspicious time to fast and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.

Shravan holds immense significance as a sacred time for Hindus. Commencing on July 22 and concluding on August 19 this year, it spans 29 days of spiritual observance.

This month is deeply revered for its association with Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu, believed to bestow special blessings during this auspicious period.

Sawan 2024: The origins of Shravan

The origin of Shravan is rooted in ancient mythology, specifically the churning of the ocean of milk, Samudra Manthan, by the Devas (Gods) and Asuras (Demons).

Amidst the emergence of both kind and malicious entities, poison threatened the cosmos. To safeguard existence, Lord Shiva fearlessly consumed the poison.

His consort, Parvathi Devi, intervened by clasping his throat to prevent the poison's descent, resulting in his throat turning blue, thus earning him the name Neelakantha.

This is the main reason for dedicating the whole month to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi.
