The 'Nightingale of India', legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday. Mangeshkar was admitted at Mumbai's Breach Candy hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 in early January. She won the hearts of the audience for around seven decades. The legendary singer recorded songs in over a thousand Hindi films and sung in over 36 foreign and regional Indian languages. Born in 1929, Lata Mangeshkar was the eldest of five siblings - Asha Bhosle, Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. The singer also received the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards during her musical career spanning over seventy years. In 1974, the Queen of Melody made history by being the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall. Today, as the nation bids farewell to Lata Mangeshkar, here are some lesser-known facts about the legendary playback singer. Lata Mangeshkar is the most recorded voice in history, having recorded over 30,000 songs in 14 Indian languages. For their song 'Jalnina,' international DJ Lord Paramour sampled Lata Mangeshkar's vocals as a tribute to her. Lata Mangeshkar was born as Hema, however, later changed the name to Lata based on a character Latika from one of her father’s plays- BhaawBandhan. Lata Mangeshkar only went to school for one day, and on her first day, she took her younger sister Asha and began teaching music to the students, but when the teachers scolded her for it, she dropped out. Lata Mangeshkar was once given a slow poison by an unidentified person, which left her bedridden for over three months.
