Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts Civil Services Exam every year. Lakhs of aspirants desire to clear the exam but only a few manage to get through it. The candidates are often excited about IAS officer’s salary, job profile, perks and facilities. The question arises that why UPSC Civil Services is the most desired examination of India? Well, here is all you need to know:

  • Salary Benefits The All India Services Officers get their salaries based on the 7th pay commission. IAS officers get more than their salaries. The perks and benefits other than salary are much more than any other job field in India. The lowest grade pay in the services is of 16,500 which make the officers salary of the pay scale range of 50,000-150000. After years of service in the Government of India, the salaries increase as per the grade pay of the officers. The first promotion would increase the grade pay to 20,000 and the highest pay is of the cabinet secretary of India which is the highest post any civil servant can hold in his tenure. They have a very strict procedure for removal of an officer. This process undergoes very major inquiries and processes which have hardly ever taken place.
  • In-Service Benefits The Indian Administrative Services bring you into the direct channel of the government decision-making process. You would be one of the chains in the command. The officers are the ones framing policies which make India and build it. The responsibility will be huge and will be fulfilling. The most important part of this job is the fulfillment and contention it provides to the aspirants. UPSC civil services prelims exam on June 2; EWS quota to be applicable | Business Standard News
  • Facilities and Perks IAS officers are provided with residence facilities and transport facilities. All their expenses are borne by the Government of India. They are allowed one vehicle along with a chauffeur. They may also get security guards due to their profiles. The benefit is all your bills (necessities) are borne by the Indian exchequer. The officers along with residence get cooks, maid-servants, security guards, gardeners etc. for their service.
  • Pension and Post-retirement Perks The Civil Servants get life-long pensions and post-retirement facilities. They can be appointed to various commissions as heads and most of the times the Government of India appoints them to many offices.
  • Trips and Diplomatic Immunity: An IAS officer could delay a plane. The flight would have to wait for him to sit in case he is late if he is on an official trip. Diplomatic immunity is another advantage a civil servant gets. If you get stuck in some place outside India, no one can arrest you if you are a diplomat of India, which is generally an IAS or an IFS officer.
