Kargil Vijay Diwas: Rajnath Singh to visit Jammu on July 24
New Delhi, July 24: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir to participate in the commemoration ceremony in Jammu on Kargil Vijay Diwas on Sunday.
Taking to Twitter, the Defence Minister on Saturday said: "Tomorrow, 24th July, I shall be visiting Jammu to attend a programme commemorating 'Kargil Vijay Diwas'. Looking forward to it."
Rajnath Singh is scheduled to arrive on Sunday along with the RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, where he will address the crowd gathered at Gulshan ground near Jammu University.
The Indian Army is also gearing up for the 23rd Kargil Vijay Diwas commemoration which will be conducted at the Kargil War Memorial. Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on July 26 of every year to commemorate India's victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War in 1999.
Meanwhile, preparations at the Kargil War Memorial for a three-day event are also underway. Several events will be held in the area and dignitaries from the army and civil administration as well as the gallantry awardees and their families will attend these programmes.

The Kargil Vijay Diwas motorcycle procession, which began at the National War Memorial in Delhi, arrived in Srinagar earlier on Friday. Riders there laid a wreath at the Chinar War Memorial at the Badami Bagh Cantonment to honour the bravehearts who had made the supreme sacrifice.
On July 18, Lieutenant General BS Raju, Vice Chief of Army Staff, flagged off the rally from New Delhi's National War Memorial to commemorate the valiant soldiers of the Indian Army who gave their lives in the Kargil War.
Srinagar-based PRO Defence Colonel Emron Musavi said that the rally is travelling along two axis - Delhi-Srinagar-Zojila-Kargil-Dras, and Delhi-Chandigarh-Rohtang-Leh-Dras.
