Kalka Shatabdi Express starts food service again, fare up
Chandigarh: With declining numbers of Covid-19 cases and relaxation by the ministry of railways, the Kalka Shatabdi Express has started food service again. However, the food facility will take up the fare by Rs 90 per passenger. The facility has already started in Kalka Shatabdi Express, however, it is still optional. If a passenger wants food service then the fare will be Rs 635 and if a passenger doesn't choose food service then the ticket will cost a bit cheaper. Earlier, the breakfast was being served to passengers onboard the morning Shatabdi Express departing Chandigarh at 6:50 am and dinner was served in evening Shatabdi Express departing Chandigarh and Delhi. The food was both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, including eggs. However, the services were stopped after the nation was hit by the coronavirus outbreak. Ever since the unlock procedure started, the railways have been running special trains. It first started with long-distance trains and later to short-distance passenger services. Special trains had “slightly higher fares” to “discourage people from avoidable travel.” The passenger services were stopped in March last year due to the pandemic which gradually resumed services from May 2020 onwards in a phased manner. -PTC News
