Patiala, February 12: In a much-needed relief for aspirants of naib tehsildar post, the Department of Revenue and Rehabilitation has reportedly asked the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) to cancel the naib tehsildar exam and reconduct it.

Earlier, the exam was conducted on May 22, 2022 for 78 posts of naib tehsildar. The candidates wanted the question paper in English and Punjabi, but chairman of the PPSC said the rules allowed the question paper to be set in English only.

In protest against this, candidates moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court. However, after the result was declared in October 2022, allegations of mass cheating surfaced. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau is looking into the matter and some accused were also arrested. The accused had used Bluetooth and GSM devices for cheating.

The government has already scrapped the merit list of shortlisted candidates.
