PM Internship Scheme 2024: Eligibility, application process and key details

PM Internship Scheme 2024: The Central Government has introduced the PM Internship Scheme, designed to benefit approximately 10 million young persons over the next five years. This initiative, announced by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the 2024-25 Union Budget, aims to offer opportunities for skill development and hands-on experience to the youth of India.

Key Benefits and Eligibility

Under the PM Internship Scheme 2024, each intern will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000. In addition, after completing one year, a lump sum of Rs 6,000 will be provided as an extra benefit. The registration process for this scheme will begin on October 12 and continue until October 25. The eligibility criteria specify that applicants must be in the 21-24 age group, have passed their Class 10, and possess a valid certificate and mark sheet.

The programme also upholds reservation policies for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates, ensuring equal opportunities for all.

Application Process

Interested candidates can apply through the official website of the PM Internship Scheme, which went live recently. The Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG) is the designated technology partner for the project. After registration, candidates will be shortlisted between October 27 and November 7. Successful applicants can confirm their participation between November 8 and November 15.

The internship programme is scheduled to commence on December 2, 2024, and will span 13 months. The cost of the pilot project is estimated to be Rs 800 crore.

Internship Funding

Out of the Rs 5,000 stipend, Rs 500 will be provided by companies through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, while the remaining Rs 4,500 will be funded by the government. Over 111 companies from India’s top 500 have already joined the programme.

The government plans to offer internships in the applicants' home districts to encourage localised opportunities and improve accessibility.
