Jio to launch 5G by Diwali, aims to cover entire country by 2023
Mumbai (Maharashtra), August 29: Reliance Jio plans to launch high-speed 5G telecom services by Diwali this year in a number of major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. The company further plans to spread its 5G network to every town, tehsil, and taluka in the country by December 2023, which is roughly 18 months from now. While addressing the shareholders at the Annual General Meeting, Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani made the announcement. Jio will roll out the latest version of 5G called standalone 5G and will invest Rs 2 lakh crore on 5G infrastructure. Aside from Metaverse, AGM was broadcast on several social media platforms as well as their homegrown HD video conferencing app JioMeet. It is likely the first company in the world to hold its annual general meeting in virtual reality and on numerous social media platforms. Investors were keen to learn the details of Reliance's 5G service debut from the company's top boss. RIL's telecom unit, Reliance Jio Infocomm, won the 5G spectrum auction in India.
Reliance Jio Infocomm acquired spectrum in the 700MHz, 800MHz, 1800MHz, 3300MHz, and 26GHz bands in the recently concluded 5G auctions held by the Department of Telecommunications, where the government received offers for around Rs 1.5 lakh. Jio's 4G network serves over 400 million loyal and delighted consumers with the greatest quality, most affordable digital offerings. Jio's 5G services are expected to lift the bar even higher. India is preparing for the launch of 5G services by October, according to Union Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw last week. 5G is a fifth-generation mobile network capable of transferring huge amounts of data at high speeds. In comparison to 3G and 4G, 5G has very low latency, which will improve user experiences in a variety of sectors. The 5G rollout is also projected to accelerate progress in remote data monitoring in industries like mining, warehousing, telemedicine, and manufacturing, among others.
