India's 'Gold rush' continues: Wrestlers Deepak Punia, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia bring laurels

India's medal tally in the CWG 2022: India had a fantastic day in wrestling, winning three gold medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022.


Indian athletes so far have won 26 medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022, including nine golds, eight silvers and nine bronzes. Meanwhile, on Day 8 of the CWG 2022, Indian wrestlers stole the show, adding three more Gold medals to India's tally. Wrestler Bajrang Punia successfully defended his title and earned his second gold medal in a row at the CWGs. While Deepak Punia won his first CWG medal and brought the gold medal home. With her exceptional performance, Indian wrestler Sakshi Malik also bagged gold to add to India's medal tally at CWG 2022.

Continuing India's medal rush at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022, Anshu Malik clinched the silver after losing the final bout. Meanwhile, wrestlers Divya Kakran and Mohit Grewal bagged the bronze medals in their respective categories. On Friday, India garnered six medals in wrestling: three golds, one silver, and two bronze.

With Indian wrestlers rising to the top of the podium, President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took note of the achievement and congratulated the Indian athletes on their victory. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also applauded the Indian wrestlers on their win. Furthermore, India's Men's Lawn Bowls Fours team ensured a medal by defeating England in the final. While India's women's hockey team was ousted in the semi-finals against Australia due to a disputed decision by the referee, followed by a subpar performance by attackers in the penalty shootout.

Star Indian paddler Manika Batra's women's singles campaign ended after she lost the quarterfinals event.
