India win U19 World Cup 2022 for record-extending 5th time, BCCI announces reward
India won the U19 World Cup for the fifth time on Saturday, defeating England in the finale at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium. Following the historic win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah announced a reward of INR 40 lakh for every player on the U19 World Cup-winning team on Sunday. Shah further announced that every member of the support staff will be getting INR 25 lakh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated the India Under-19 cricket team on its historic U19 World Cup win. “Extremely proud of our young cricketers. Congratulations to the Indian team for winning the ICC U19 World Cup. They have shown great fortitude through the tournament. Their stellar performance at the highest level shows that the future of Indian cricket is in safe and able hands,” tweeted PM Modi. "I am pleased to announce the reward of 40 lacs per player and 25 lacs per support staff for the U19 #TeamIndia contingent for their exemplary performance in the #U19CWC final. You have made India proud," tweeted the BCCI secretary, Shah.

India had won the U19 World Cup four times previously, in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018. With exceptional performance, the India U-19 team remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and displayed amazing teamwork and prospects. Rajangad Bawa, Ravi Kumar, Shaik Rasheed, and Nishant Sindhu were among the star players. India got off to the worst possible start in their chase for 190 runs as Joshua Boyden dismissed Angkrish Raghuvanshi (0) on the third ball of the innings. Then Harnoor Singh joined Shaik Rasheed at the crease and the duo managed to put on 49 runs for the second wicket. As soon as India appeared to be gaining the upper hand, England roared back into the game in the 18th over, knocking Harnoor (21), reducing India to 49/2. Next, skipper Yash Dhull joined Rasheed in the middle, and the two batters put up a 46-run partnership, putting Rasheed (50) over the 50-run mark. However, as soon as he hit the landmark, he lost his wicket to James Sales. In his next over, Sales dismissed Dhull (17), reducing India to 97/4, with 93 runs still needed for winning. After that, Raj Bawa (35) and Nishant Sindhu (50*) ensured that India did not lose any more wickets in a cluster. In the end, India registered a four-wicket win and lifted the U19 World Cup for the record-extending fifth time.
