India reports 12,751 fresh Covid-19 cases, positivity rate at 3.50%
New Delhi, August 9: India once again witnessed a marginal drop in the number of daily covid-19 cases. The country recorded 12,751 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry informed on Tuesday. With the newly reported case, India's active caseload currently stands at 1,31,807. Earlier on Monday, India saw 16,167 new Covid-19 cases. According to recent data update by the health ministry, a total of 16,412 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. This took the cumulative recoveries to 4,35,16,071 with recovery rate of 98.51 percent. The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 3.50 percent and weekly positivity rate is 4.69%. India conducted over 87.85 crore covid tests, so far, with 3,63,855 tests done in last 24 hours. Under the Covid-19 nationwide vaccination programme, a total of 31,95,034 doses were administered in the last 24 hours, with over 206.88 crore vaccine jabs administered to eligible beneficiaries in the country so far. Amid a rise in coronavirus infections in some states of the country, the central government has asked the national capital Delhi and six states to ensure adequate testing, promote Covid-appropriate behaviour and increase the pace of vaccination to contain the surge. In a letter to Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said upcoming festivals and mass gatherings in different parts of the country may potentially aid the transmission of infectious diseases, including COVID-19.
