India records highest spike of coronavirus cases and recoveries
India's COVID-19 case tally on Saturday crossed 46 lakh-mark with a spike of 97,570 new cases and 1,201 deaths, reported in the last 24 hours. A total of 81,533 COVID patients in India were declared cured and discharged in the last 24 hours. The total number of coronavirus cases has increased to 46,59,985 out of which 9,58,316 are active cases, 36,24,197 have been cured and discharged while 77,472 COVID patients died due to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total number of 5,51,89,226 samples have been tested in India for COVID-19 up to September 11 while 10,91,251 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The Ministry of Health also said that the gap between the percentage of recovered cases and the percentage of active cases progressively growing wide. More than 3/4 of total cases (more than 36 lakhs) recovered and discharged. The active cases (less than 10.5 lakhs) only a small proportion (less than 1/4) of total cases, it added.
