India logs 2,927 fresh Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

New Delhi, April 27: Witnessing a steady rise in the number of new Covid-19 cases, India recorded 2,927 new infections in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare informed on Wednesday. On Tuesday, India had recorded 2,483 new Covid-19 cases. The active caseload in the country also increased from 15,636 to 16,279. The active Covid-19 cases now account for 0.04 percent of the total cases, according to an update by the health ministry. A total of 2,252 Coronavirus patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 4,25,25,563. The recovery rate now stands at 98.75 percent. India's Covid cases continue to rise According to the update by the health ministry, 32 patients succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours. The death toll due to the Covid-19 is now at 5,23,654. The daily case positivity rate also saw an uptick from 0.55 percent (on Tuesday) to 0.58 percent (on Wednesday). The weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 0.59%. So far, 83.59 crore tests have been performed in the country. In terms of vaccination, 21,97,082 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were given out during this time period. With this, the total number of vaccines administered as part of the nationwide vaccination campaign has now reached 1,88,19,40,971.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a meeting with Chief Ministers via video conferencing on Wednesday to assess the situation. India's Covid cases continue to rise The virtual meeting will take place on Wednesday at 12 p.m., according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The meeting is scheduled to be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and officials from their respective Ministries, in addition to the Prime Minister and senior officials from the Prime Minister's Office.
