Independence Day 2022: India, Bangladesh troops exchange sweets at Fulbari border

Siliguri [West Bengal], August 15: As India celebrates 76th Independence Day, Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) exchanged sweets and greetings at the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Fulbari on Monday.

This year's celebrations are extra special because India is commemorating its 75 years of independence with Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav across the country. India and Bangladesh share a civilizational heritage as well as a variety of factors that cover nearly the entire spectrum of interaction that neighbours can have. Both countries' border guarding forces have established strong systems to ensure cooperation in border guarding and border management.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a Government of India initiative to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of independence, as well as the glorious history of India's people, culture, and achievements.

This Mahotsav is dedicated to the people of India, who have not only been crucial in getting India this far in its evolutionary journey but also possess the power and potential to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav's official journey began on March 12, 2021, kicking off a 75-week countdown to our 76th anniversary of independence. On the bilateral front, the border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh met in July at the 52nd Director General-level coordination conference to discuss curbing trans-border crime and taking necessary measures to ensure peace and tranquillity along the border. The Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) stressed the importance of mutual trust and harmony during a five-day conference from July 17-21.
