IIT Madras reports 11 new Covid cases, takes tally to 182
Chennai (Tamil Nadu), April 29: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras reported 11 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, taking the total number of infections on the campus to 182, informed Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan. Earlier, it was reported that IIT Madras reported 26 more cases on Thursday, recording the 171 Covid-19 cases so far. However, the tally has now increased to nearly 200. According to the Health Secretary, IIT Madras has not been closed as of now, however, the government along with campus authorities are trying their best to ensure that the Covid cluster does not spread to the other places from the university. "Total 171 Covid-19 cases detected in IIT-Madras campus till now," Radhakrishnan said on Thursday. He further added, "Few more cases have been reported in IIT Madras. These all are part of our saturation test. There is nothing to panic about. We have not closed the institution. We are ensuring that the cluster doesn't spread to other places." Notably, IIT Madras was a cluster in previous Coronavirus waves. The state government is anticipating that increased containment and testing will bring the cluster at IIT Madras under control soon. In a statement released earlier this week, the institute stated that it is ready to rise to the challenge. The institute said that it has experience in containing the pandemic through waves starting March 2020. This comes after the institute's researchers published a report claiming that Indomethacin can be used to treat Covid-19 patients with mild or moderate symptoms.
