Heavy rainfall lashes parts of north India, thundershowers and gusty winds deliver relief

Heavy rainfall in parts of north India, including Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana and Delhi have brought respite from the searing heatwave in the region.  A fresh western disturbance led rain and thunderstorms in northwest India started on late Sunday evening. As a result, the minimum temperature in some areas of Punjab fell to 10 degrees Celsius by Monday morning. The weather department has predicted the abetment of heatwave across the country from today. At least 10 districts in Kerala received  heavy rainfall on Sunday with the IMD issuing a Yellow alert, while the Idukki district administration has opened the shutters of Kallarkutty and Pambla dams to release excess water. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Yellow alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts for today whereas Wayanand too has Yellow alert on May 24. -PTC News
