Cheema, a two-term MLA from Sultanpur Lodhi, had complained that his security cover has been reduced without issuing cause show notice.
He informed the court that his security cover had been withdrawn in a vengeful manner after it was made public. However, the government was unaware that the move could jeopardise his life and expose him to gangster threats.
Earlier, Parminder Singh Pinki also challenged the security cut and the High Court increased his security and sought reply from the government and now it has directed to increase the security of Navtej Cheema. Following the Bhagwant Mann government's decision to drastically reduce the security of VIPs, a second case against the security cut has reached the High Court till now.
Cheema had received threats from abroad in 2019, and the previous administration had provided him with Y security cover based on threat perception assessment, Thakur claimed, adding that the current government had revoked the security cover without analysing the threat perception.
