Haryana DSP killed by mining mafia declared martyr; CM announces govt job, Rs 1 crore relief to family

Chandigarh, July 19: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday declared Tauru DSP Surender Singh as martyr, besides announcing a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family along with government job for a member of the family. Tauru DSP Surender Singh was allegedly mowed down by a dumper while on a raid on a sand mining site in Nuh district of Haryana earlier in the day. "We are with the family in this hour of grief. This is a loss to the entire force and we won't let the sacrifice go in vain. Nobody will be spared and we will take quick and strict action," said Manohar Lal Khattar.

The Haryana Police said he sacrificed his life in the line of duty and no effort should be spared in bringing the culprits to book. Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has sought a judicial inquiry into the incident. He alleged that mining mafia was getting patronage from the government. "Does the chief minister not know that the mining mafia is flourishing from Yamunanagar to Nuh and Mewat? Why is the government acting like a mute spectator?" he asked. A murder case should be registered and all culprits should be arrested, Surjewala demanded. Leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly, Bhupinder Singh Hooda alleged that law and order has collapsed in the northern state. Khattar said police posts would be created near mining areas and the destination of mining vehicles and their equipment would also be fixed. "Posts will also be set up at the inter-state borders," Khattar said. "It is an unfortunate incident. A truck belonging to the sand mafia ran over him over the DSP officer. Our condolences go out to the bereaved family. A total of Rs 1 crore would be provided in compensation to the kin of the martyred police officer. We would also provide a job to one of his family members," he added. "He had gone or a surprise inspection based on a tip-off. Didn't come with backup force as he may not have found time for it. He was run over by the accused. No weapons were used," Kiran said. The brother of the deceased officer, Ashok Manju said, "I spoke with him today only. He was retiring this year. He has two children." -PTC News with agency inputs
