Govt will investigate reasons behind Rs 3 lakh crore debt, says Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann
Chandigarh, April 18: The Punjab Government, led by Bhagwant Mann, has decided to investigate the expenditure of previous state governments, which he claimed led to the situation of Rs 3 lakh crore debt on the present government. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann alleged that previous governments pushed Punjab into debt. he said the AAP dispensation would inquire where the money was used and make recovery. "Previous governments have left a debt of Rs 3 lakh crore on Punjab. But where has this been used? We will investigate and make recovery, because it is people's money," a tweet in Punjabi from the party's state unit said while quoting CM Bhagwant Mann. In the run-up to the Punjab Assembly elections in February, AAP leaders had targeted successive governments in the state for allegedly pushing the state into a debt trap. The AAP wrested power from the Congress in Punjab by winning 92 of the 117 Assembly seats. Earlier, the Punjab Government waived off dues of old electricity bills up to December 31, 2021, of households having a load of up to two kilowatts of electricity. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said from July 1, 2022, every household in Punjab would have 300 units of free electricity every month — 600 units for 2 months. Addressing a press conference today, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, "From July 1, 2022, every household in Punjab will have 300 units of free electricity every month - 600 units for two months. Backward castes, below-poverty-line households and freedom fighters used to get 200 units of free electricity earlier, they too will now get 300 units free." In his first speech after becoming the Chief Minister, Mann had assured the people of the state that his party's government in Punjab will work to address issues like unemployment, corruption and farmers' plight. -PTC News
