New Delhi, October 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday led the nation in paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 153rd birth anniversary. "Paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi on #GandhiJayanti. This Gandhi Jayanti is even more special because India is marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. May we always live up to Bapu’s ideals..." PM Modi said on Twitter. The Prime Minister further urged people to buy Khadi and handicrafts products as a tribute to Gandhi. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary is also observed as the International Day of Non-Violence, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2007. Congress leaders also reached Delhi's Rajghat to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. Sonia Gandhi, the interim president of the Congress, and senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge were among the leaders who paid floral tributes to Gandhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid homage former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary and shared glimpses of Shastri's gallery in the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya in Delhi. He also urged the people to visit the museum. "Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji is admired all across India for his simplicity and decisiveness. His tough leadership at a very crucial time in our history will always be remembered. Tributes to him on his Jayanti," he said. "Today, on Shastri Ji's Jayanti I am also sharing some glimpses from his gallery in the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya in Delhi, which showcases his life journey and accomplishments as PM.
