Fuel price hike: Diesel, petrol prices up by 80 paise per litre; 11th hike in 13 days
New Delhi, April 3: Petrol and diesel prices were raised by 80 paise a litre on Sunday, bringing the total hike to Rs 8 a litre in less than two weeks. Petrol and diesel prices in Delhi are currently at Rs 103.41 per litre and Rs 94.67 per litre, respectively (an increase of 80 paise). Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai are at Rs 118.41 (an increase of 84 paise) and Rs 102.64 per litre (increased by 85 paise), respectively. In Chennai, petrol and diesel rates per litre are Rs 108.96 (up 75 paise) and Rs 99.04, respectively, while in Kolkata, petrol is Rs 113.03 (up 84 paise) and diesel costs Rs 97.82. This is the 11th price rise since the end of a four-and-a-half-month rate revision hiatus on March 22. On November 3 of last year, the Centre slashed excise duty on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 10 per litre to lower retail prices across the country. As a result, numerous state governments decreased the value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel to help consumers.
