Four die in blast in Pakistan's Karachi, several injured
Karachi (Pakistan), April 26: At least four people were killed and several others were injured in a car explosion inside the premises of the University of Pakistan in Karachi, media reports said on Tuesday. According to Geo TV, the blast took place at around 2 pm in a van near Confucius Institute at Karachi University. After the blast, rescue and security agencies rushed to the location and cordoned off the areas. The rescue operations were initiated, the media outlet reported. As per the initial reports two Chinese language teachers were killed in the blast. There were seven to eight people in the van, however, the exact number of casualties has yet to be reported, said police. According to local media sources, the van was carrying lecturers, including two foreign nationals who had just returned from teaching at the university. A foreign national, a rangers’ officer and a private guard are said to be among the injured. They were to a private hospital in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and are said to be in critical condition, hospital officials informed. Muqaddas Haider, the East Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), informed the media that nothing could be said at this time. Meanwhile, the Gulshan Superintendent of Police (SP) stated that an investigation is underway to determine whether the blast was the result of a terrorist attack or an accident. The SP has dispatched a bomb disposal team, and the deceased and injured have been transported to a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon stated that an initial investigation indicates that a burqa-clad woman may be involved in the suicide blast.
