Yashpal Sharma Death News: Former Indian cricketer and 1983 World Cup winner Yashpal Sharma on Tuesday passed away due to a heart attack. He was one of the heroes in India's World Cup triumph in 1983. Yashpal Sharma had played a pivotal role in the 1983 world cup as he had scored 240 runs at an average of 34.28 including match-winning innings of 60 runs against England in the semi-finals. Former Punjab cricketer was one of the gifted middle-order batsmen for the then Indian cricket team. In a career spanning from 1979 to 1983, he had played 37 Tests for India. He scored 1606 runs with two centuries and 9 fifties. He received limelight following his 260-runs inning for Punjab schools against Jammu and Kashmir schools in 1972. Within two years, he made his place in the state team and a member of the North Zone team that bagged the Vizzy Trophy. In First-class cricket, his major innings was a 173 in the Duleep Trophy for North, against the South Zone. The South Zone had the likes of Chandrasekhar, Erapalli Prasanna, and Venkataraghavan.
