Flood warning at Pong Dam, yellow alert issued
Chandigarh, August 21: The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), Talwara, issued a yellow alert, writing to several administration officers, including Central Flood Control Room, Civil Secretariat, Flood Control Room, Chief Engineer, Canals, etc. on flood warning at Pong Dam. Notably, the water level at the Pong Lake was only seven feet below the danger mark. Also Read: Pathankot-Mandi NH closed due to collapse of bridge over Chakki river The notice stated that, “Due to widespread rainfall in Beas catchment area during last 24 hours the Reservoir Level of Pong Dam at 1600 Hours is 1374.28 ft and Inflow is observed as 412463 cusecs-hours. Thus, keeping above under consideration and heavy inflow forecast for next 2-3 days, there is a possibility that releases from Pong Dam maybe up to 50,000 cusecs. Please intimate concerned civil and Irrigation authorities and take action accordingly to avoid any mishap.” The notice has been issued from Senior Design Engineer, Water Regulation Cell, BBMB, Talwara Township. -PTC News
