Finally, India's DCGI passes COVID-19 vaccine
The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) approves the emergency use of both Serum Institute's Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for emergency use against COVID-19 in India. An expert panel of Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) recommended them for emergency use.

Selected hospitals across the country conducted an inoculation dry run to understand the best way to administer the vaccine and plug loopholes in logistics and training.
VG Somani, Drug Controller General of India said, "We'll never approve anything if there's slightest of safety concern. Vaccines are 110 % safe. Some side effects like mild fever, pain & allergy are common for every vaccine. It (that people may get impotent) is absolute rubbish."

PM Narendra Modi also tweeted about the vaccine. He wrote, "A decisive turning point to strengthen a spirited fight! DCGI granting approval to vaccines of @SerumInstIndia and @BharatBiotech accelerates the road to a healthier and COVID-free nation. Congratulations India. Congratulations to our hardworking scientists and innovators."

He also thanked the doctors stating, "We reiterate our gratitude to doctors, medical staff, scientists, police personnel, sanitation workers and all Corona warriors for the outstanding work done, that too in adverse circumstances. We will remain eternally grateful to them for saving many lives."
