Know the story of Jesus: From Holy Thursday to Easter

PTC News Desk: As the Christian community worldwide observes the holy week or Passion Week, it delves into one of the most significant periods in the Christian calendar. Spanning eight days, this period offers a profound opportunity for believers to contemplate the transformative impact of Jesus's sacrifice on the cross.

The holy week commences with Palm Sunday, commemorating Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem, followed by Holy Thursday, also known as the Last Supper or Maundy Thursday. This day marks the occasion when Jesus shared the sacrament of Holy Communion with his disciples and demonstrated humility by washing their feet. It serves as a poignant reminder of Christ's teachings on service and the establishment of the Holy Eucharist.

On Good Friday, Christians worldwide solemnly reflect on the crucifixion and death of Jesus. This somber day of fasting and penance invites believers to contemplate the profound sacrifice made by Jesus to redeem humanity. Many churches participate in the Stations of the Cross, a practice where members meditate on the events leading up to Jesus's crucifixion.

Holy Saturday, occurring between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, commemorates the period when Jesus's body lay in the tomb. Christians anticipate the celebration of Christ's resurrection and participate in Easter Vigils, marked by readings, prayers, and the lighting of the Paschal Candle symbolising Christ's light.

Families gather for feasts and rejoicing, while churches host special services to honor this momentous event. The Easter egg, symbolising rebirth and new life, is a cherished custom observed during this festive season.

Throughout the holy week, believers reflect on the profound significance of Jesus's life, death, and resurrection, finding solace, inspiration, and renewed hope in the enduring message of love and redemption.
