Farm Laws 2020: Central government calls Punjab farmers for dialogue
Farmers protest: Two days after the farmer leaders of 8 states called for nationwide 'chakka jam', the Central government has once again called 29 farmers' organisations of Punjab, agitating against the farm laws 2020, for dialogue.
According to a letter issued by Sanjay Agarwal, Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, the farmers' organizations have been called for the meeting on October 14 at 11.30 am at the Ministry.

The farmers protest is being staged across the nation following the passing of the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020, and Essential Commodities Act, in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, during the monsoon session of the Parliament.
While farmers' organisations of Punjab have been demanding the withdrawal of Farm laws 2020, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, had said that the Farm Bills will free farmers from the shackles of APMC (Agricultural produce market committee) and will give them a price guarantee at the time of sowing.

He was quoted by the news agency ANI as saying: “I would like to tell farmers – let these be implemented, it’ll definitely bring a change in your lives.”
“Farmers will have the freedom to choose where they want to sell,” he added.
On the other side, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while talking about the farm laws 2020, said that one more source of black money has been blocked.
He said that “Today these people are misleading farmers over MSP. There will not only be MSP in the country but also the freedom for farmers to sell their produce anywhere. But some people are unable to tolerate this freedom. Their one more medium to earn a black income is finished.”
