Fake Alert-Fraudsters targeting electricity consumers via fake messages
Chandigarh, June 27: A new method to dupe electricity consumers through fake messages has surfaced in Punjab.
It has been come to notice that a message “Dear Customer your electricity power will be disconnected tonight at 9.30 PM from electricity office. Because your previous month bill is not updated” is being sent on mobile of consumers and contact numbers i.e. 8260648926, 9064820457 has also been given to contact with electricity officer. It is informed that the said mobile numbers are fake and not related to any officer of Electricity Wing of Engineering Department, U.T., Chandigarh. Such type of message has not been issued by the Electricity Wing of Engineering Department, U.T., Chandigarh (EWEDC)
Hence, General public is advised not to take the cognizance of such type of message and not to fall prey to unscrupulous elements/fake message to avoid any financial loss to them. Further, in case of any grievance regarding electricity bill, the concerned Sub Division office, if required as mentioned in the electricity bills may be contacted.
