‘Explain why crores being earmarked to advertise failed Delhi Model in Gujarat’: Sukhbir Badal

Chandigarh, October 5 – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today asked chief minister Bhagwant Mann to explain why the AAP government had earmarked crores of rupees to advertise the failed education model of Delhi in Gujarat when Punjab had consistently been ranked higher than Delhi in three consecutive nation level surveys on school education. Asking the chief minister not to insult Punjabis in his over eagerness to please his boss – Kejriwal, Mr Badal said Punjab schools as well as the Punjab school education system had been ranked better than Delhi in three consecutive national surveys including the National Achievement Survey, Performance Grading Index Survey and the Foundation Learning Study. “It is clear that the much hyped Delhi Model of school education, which was used as a propaganda tool by the AAP in Punjab, is a complete failure. The chief minister should stop this fake publicity immediately and utilize the saved funds for the welfare of Punjabis”.   Stressing that this Rs 700 crore could have been put to better use, Mr Badal said the agriculture sector was in a crisis with farmers not being paid compensation for crop damage or incentive of Rs 1,500 per acre for direct seeding of paddy and Rs 2,500 per acre to abstain from burning paddy stubble. He said the government had also failed to pay any compensation to dairy farmers for losses suffered due to lumpy skin disease and failure to procure Moong crop. “Similarly the youth are awaiting jobs promised to them even as those who were promised jobs are being beaten mercilessly for approaching the chief minister to come good on his commitment”. He said even social welfare schemes like the aata-daal scheme and old age pension scheme had been disrupted because the AAP government did not have funds for them even as crores were being spent on fake publicity in Gujarat and Himachal.
