Vir Das makes history as first Indian host of 2024 International Emmy Awards

PTC News Desk: Vir Das, the acclaimed Indian stand-up comedian and actor, has been announced as the host for the 2024 International Emmy Awards, organised by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. This historic appointment makes him the first Indian to host the prestigious event.

Expressing his excitement on Instagram, Das wrote, "Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host! I can't wait to host the @iemmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honoured and excited!" His enthusiasm reflects the significance of this milestone in his career.


Vir Das, who has previously achieved notable success, was nominated for an Emmy in 2021 for his special Vir Das: For India and won the award in 2023 for his Netflix special Landing. Currently, he is on his international Mind Fool tour.

In addition to his stand-up career, Das has made substantial contributions to television and film. He has created, produced, and starred in series such as ABC's Whiskey Cavalier, Netflix's Hasmukh, and Amazon's Jestination Unknown. Das also appeared in Judd Apatow’s film The Bubble and is working on a single-camera comedy with CBS Studios and Andy Samberg. Moreover, he is the lead singer of India’s comedy-rock band, Alien Chutney.

Vir Das shared his enthusiasm for hosting the International Emmys, stating, "I am so happy to be hosting the International Emmys. It's a massive prestigious night to honor makers from across a world that I believe is producing its best content. I know firsthand how it can be life-changing," as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

Bruce L. Paisner, President and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, expressed their delight at Das's appointment. "We're delighted to welcome back Vir Das to our stage and to add International Emmy Host to his impressive list of talents. With his unique humor and perspective on the world, he now joins a distinguished group of Gala hosts who resonate with our global audience."

The 2024 International Emmy Awards will take place on November 25 in New York City, marking a significant occasion for the entertainment industry.
