Veteran journalist, filmmaker Pritish Nandy passes away at 73
PTC News Desk: Veteran journalist and filmmaker Pritish Nandy passed away at the age of 73 years due to cardiac arrest. He breathed his last on Wednesday at his residence in Mumbai.
Pritish Nandy was the producer of several successful movies like Jhankaar Beats, Chameli, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, Ankahee, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Bow Barracks Forever, among many others.
Nandy's close friend and actor Anupam Kher took to his social media and shared this devastating news along with a long heartfelt post.
The actor wrote, "Deeply deeply saddened and shocked to know about the demise of one of my dearest and closest friends #PritishNandy!"
"Amazing poet, writer, filmmaker and a brave and unique editor/journalist! He was my support system and a great source of strength in my initial days in Mumbai. We shared lots of things in common. He was also one of the most fearless people I had come across. Always Larger than life," he added.
Condolences pour in
Soon after the tragic news of passing of Nandy floated, condolences began to pour in.
Several journalists from the media fraternity including Shela Bhatt expressed shock and grif over passing away of Pritish Nandy and said "was a game changer. He injected tremendous energy into staid magazine journalism of early 80s."
"He revamped the Illustrated Weekly, making it one of the most influential magazines of its time. Sometimes, he would take me to meet some of the most powerful politicians," veteran journalist Dibang in his tribute to Mr Nandy.
