Sushant Singh Rajput death case: Why CBI filed closure report in abetment and drug prescription cases ?
PTC News Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a closure report in Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Rajput was found hanging at his residence in Mumbai’s Bandra on June 14, 2020. The closure report was filed in two cases before a court in Mumbai on Saturday.
One case pertaining to abetment to suicide case was filed by Sushant's family against actor's then girlfriend and actor Rhea Chakraborty and another case was filed by Chakraborty against Sushant's family.
Rajput, aged 34, was discovered dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020. The Mumbai Police's preliminary investigation determined it to be a case of suicide, with the postmortem report citing asphyxia caused by hanging as the cause of death. However, the incident triggered widespread media attention and public debate, leading to numerous conspiracy theories and controversies.
The CBI assumed control of the investigation from the Bihar Police and questioned Chakraborty regarding the case. Following this, Chakraborty, her brother Shouvik, and several others were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with a drug-related probe linked to Rajput’s death. She remained in jail for 28 days before being released on bail.
After conducting a comprehensive investigation, the CBI concluded that there was no evidence of foul play or any material supporting the allegations that Rajput was driven to suicide by anyone.
Reacting to the development, Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer expressed gratitude to the CBI, stating, “We are grateful to the CBI for thoroughly investigating every aspect of the case from all angles and closing the case.”
