Sunil Lahri, known as Lakshman from Ramayan, criticises Ayodhya citizens for ‘betraying’ BJP: ‘They doubted Sita too’

PTC News Desk: The actor who portrayed Lakshman in the Ramayana, Sunil Lahri, is responding to the BJP's defeat in Ayodhya in the Lok Sabha Elections. Awadhesh Prasad, the candidate of the Samajwadi Party, defeated Lallu Singh, the closest BJP opponent, to win the Faizabad parliamentary seat. Sunil shared his opinions on the outcomes in a statement that he shared on his Instagram Stories.

What Sunil said?

Sunil posted a photo from the famous Baahubali scene—in which Kattappa murders Baahubali—on his Instagram Stories. Baahubali was written with the BJP, and Kattappa was written with the Ayodhya. "We are forgetting that these are the same Ayodhya citizens who doubted Goddess Sita after she returned from exile," he wrote in a note he then posted in Hindi. What do you call someone who goes so far as to deny God? Self-centered. History demonstrates that the people of Ayodhya have consistently forsaken their monarch. Disgrace to them.

"We salute your greatness, dear citizens of Ayodhya, you are the ones who didn't spare even Goddess Sita," he wrote in his final Instagram story. The fact that you betrayed the man who ensured that Lord Ram emerged from that tiny tent and was placed in a magnificent temple does not surprise us. You will never again be seen with respect by the entire country.

More information

The BJP did not benefit locally from the construction of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya as the party lost the Faizabad constituency, which is home to the shrine town. With 544,289 votes to Singh's 499,722, Prasad prevailed by a margin of 54,567.

As Lord Ram and Sita in Ramanand Sagar's TV series Ramayana, Arun Govil and Dipika Chikhlia were present for the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, where Sunil was also present.
