Kangana Ranaut gets censor certificate for 'Emergency,' release date announcement soon
PTC Web Desk: Actor Kangana Ranaut announced on Thursday that her film 'Emergency' has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for release. In a social media post dated October 17, she shared that the team had received the censor certificate and would soon reveal the final release date. She expressed gratitude to her fans for their patience and support, stating, "We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency, we will be announcing the release date soon."
This announcement follows recent developments where Zee Studios, the production house behind the film, informed the Bombay High Court of their agreement to implement all changes suggested by the CBFC's revising committee. The board had issued around 13 cuts, including removing certain violent scenes and references to Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as 'saint or sant' in a dialogue, after multiple complaints from Sikh groups who felt the film portrayed the Sikh community negatively. With these changes, the film was granted a U/A certificate.
Sources earlier hinted that the makers plan to release 'Emergency' after the Punjab elections in November, aiming for a time that would ensure the film is well-received without causing controversy. Initially scheduled for a September 6 release, the film's team decided to postpone it to avoid conflicts. Directed by Kangana Ranaut, 'Emergency' depicts India's Emergency period from June 1975 to March 1977, with Kangana Ranaut portraying former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The film also features Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry, and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles.
