Happy Birthday Sonu Sood: In Bollywood, Sonu Sood has made a name for himself. The actor's diligence and unwavering commitment to his trade deserve all the praise. His acting skills in hit movies have received a lot of praise from the public. He is renowned for having a golden heart, though.

Because of his humanitarian efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sonu Sood has acquired the distinction of becoming a real-life hero. The actor helped those in need during the countrywide lockdown while the rest of the globe was fighting a dangerous illness. As the actor celebrates his 51st birthday today, July 31, let's look back at his rise to fame, his best-known roles, his next endeavors, and his many charitable endeavors.


Sonu Sood’s Journey

Sonu Sood was born on July 30, 1973, in Moga, Punjab. His mother Saroj Sood was a teacher, while his father Shakti Sagar Sood owned a clothing store. Additionally, he has a sister named Monika who works as a scientist. Sonu began his modeling career while he was an engineering student at Yeshwantrao Chavan College of Engineering, Nagpur, aiming to graduate.

Sonu was married to Andhra Pradesh native Sonali Shirdhar in 1996. When Sonu was studying engineering at the same college as Sonali, the two fell in love.

After making his acting debut in the Tamil film Kallazhagar in 1999, Sonu Sood never looked back. He acted in a number of regional motion pictures, including Majunu, Hands Up, and Nenjinile. In 2002, Sonu made his Bollywood debut with the movie Shaheed-E-Azam. In the movie, he portrayed Bhagat Singh.

After portraying the brother of Abhishek Bachchan in the 2004 movie Yuva, Sonu Sood became extremely well-known. Even for the 2005 romantic thriller Aashiq Banaya Aapne, he was highly praised.

Following that, Sonu starred in a number of high-profile movies, including Simmba, Happy New Year, Jodhaa Akbar, Shootout at Wadala, Dabangg, Singh is Kinng, and Jodhaa Akbar. He has played both villainous and heroic parts during his time in Bollywood and Tollywood. But what really needs to be highlighted are his portrayals of terrible characters.

Sonu Sood also participated as a judge in Seasons 19 and 20 of the reality series MTV Roadies.

Dabangg: Sonu Sood delivered an unforgettable performance as Chedi Singh in the Salman Khan-starrer Dabangg. Directed by Abhinav Singh Kashyap, the action film also featured Sonakshi Sinha, Arbaaz Khan, Vinod Khanna, and Mahesh Manjrekar in key roles.

Arundhati: Sonu Sood's portrayal of the antagonist in the Telugu horror fantasy film Arundhati was highly praised by both audiences and critics. His performance earned him the Andhra Pradesh State Nandi Award for Best Villain and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor – Telugu.

Aashiq Banaya Aapne: In the 2005 romantic thriller Aashiq Banaya Aapne, directed by Aditya Datt, Sonu Sood starred alongside Emraan Hashmi and Tanushree Dutta in a love triangle. The film is still remembered for its remarkable soundtrack.

Shootout at Wadala: In the 2013 action crime film Shootout at Wadala, Sonu Sood played the role of gangster Dilawar Imtiaz Haksar, a character reportedly inspired by the infamous Dawood Ibrahim. The film, directed by Sanjay Gupta, also featured John Abraham, Manoj Bajpayee, Anil Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Ronit Roy, and Kangana Ranaut.

Simmba: Sonu Sood joined Rohit Shetty’s cop universe in the action film Simmba, playing the antagonist opposite Ranveer Singh. The film also starred Sara Ali Khan in the female lead role.

Sonu Sood’s Upcoming Films

Fateh: Sonu will be next seen in the crime thriller Fateh opposite Jacqueliene Fernandez. The film also marks his directorial debut. The official release date of Fateh is yet to be revealed.

Sonu Sood Foundation

Sonu Sood continues to do humanitarian work with his NGO, Sood Charity Foundation, which aims to improve the lives of the underprivileged by providing them with the necessary resources to live a healthy and productive life.

Sonu Sood’s Humanitarian Work


Humanitarian Work and Recognition: Sonu Sood has captured the hearts of millions through his humanitarian efforts, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) honored him with the SDG Special Humanitarian Action Award for his and his team's initiatives during this challenging time.

Transportation for Migrants: During the pandemic, when transportation was scarce, Sonu Sood arranged transport services for lakhs of migrants, helping them return to their native places. He also organized chartered flights for students stranded in Kyrgyzstan.

Free Medical Camps: In 2020, Sonu Sood organized free medical camps across the country, providing medical aid to over 50,000 people in need.

Pravasi Rojgaar App: To assist migrants who lost their jobs during the pandemic, Sonu Sood launched the Pravasi Rojgaar app, helping workers find suitable employment opportunities.

Prof Saroj Sood Scholarship: Sonu Sood initiated a special scholarship program for students pursuing higher education, named after his late mother, Professor Saroj Sood.

Support for Health Workers: During the COVID-19 lockdown, Sonu Sood opened his Juhu hotel to accommodate health workers treating patients. He also donated face shields and PPE kits to them.

Shakti Annadanam Scheme: To address hunger during the lockdown, Sonu Sood launched the Shakti Annadanam Scheme, named in memory of his late father, Shakti Sagar Sood. The initiative provided food to over 45,000 people in Mumbai daily.

Smartphone Donations: Recognising the challenges of online learning during the lockdown, Sonu Sood distributed thousands of smartphones to underprivileged children, ensuring their education could continue uninterrupted.
