From Veer-Zaara to reality: Gurdas Maan's cameo in 'aisa des hai mera' revealed

PTC News Desk: Punjabi music legend Gurdas Maan recently shared his cherished memories of working on the iconic songs “Aisa Des Hai Mera” and “Lohri” from the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Veer-Zaara. Not only did Maan lend his soulful voice to both tracks, but he also made a cameo appearance in “Aisa Des Hai Mera,” where he performed Bhangra alongside SRK. Interestingly, the cameo was not part of the original plan; it came about at the suggestion of the late filmmaker Yash Chopra.

Reflecting on the experience, Gurdas Maan said, "The film Veer-Zaara and the songs ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’ and ‘Lohri’ hold a special place in my heart. One of my most fond memories is how everything just fell into place. I was in Chandigarh at the time, shooting for Des Hoyaa Pardes, and coincidentally, Veer-Zaara was being filmed in the same city. Yash Ji and I were staying in the same hotel."

He went on to explain, "I had already recorded the song ‘Lohri’ and portions of ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera’—the Mukhda and Jugni parts—when one day, Yash Ji approached me. He mentioned that they were about to shoot ‘Aisa Des Hai Mera,’ and since I had sung the song and happened to be on set, he asked, ‘Why not appear in the song as well?’ That’s when I put my own film’s shoot on hold and joined the set of Veer-Zaara for that special moment.”

Maan described it as a beautiful and proud experience, saying that being part of a song that resonates with the soul of India is something he deeply treasures.

Veer-Zaara, a timeless love story about star-crossed lovers from India and Pakistan, is set for a re-release nearly 20 years after its original debut. The film, which centers around Veer, a man wrongfully imprisoned in Pakistan, is remembered for its emotional depth and heartwarming songs composed by the late musical genius Madan Mohan.
