PTC News Desk: The youngest son of Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and the daughter of industrialist Viren Merchant, Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are now married.
The long-awaited spectacular star-studded wedding ceremony was attended by a host of international celebrities and high-profile guests from various fields. Alongside this, there has been significant interest in Anant Ambani’s long-term health issue journey of how business tycoon shed over 100 kg in a year but again regained substantial weight.
In 2016, he shed 108 kilos in 18 months but his weight loss joy was short-lived as Anant reportedly regained much of the weight he had lost.
In an interview in 2017, Nita Ambani revealed that her son Anant Ambani had severe asthma, necessitating extensive steroid use, which contributed to his obesity. Initially, Anant weighed around 208 kg, with his weight gain largely attributed to the steroids used for his chronic asthma treatment.

Steroid medications, also called corticosteroids, are often prescribed by doctors to treat asthma. Steroid medications help in reduction of lungs and airway inflammation. Steroids effectively reduce asthma symptoms in most people, but they don’t work for everyone. Although known for its effectiveness , its long-term use can lead to side effects like weight gain, osteoporosis, and increased susceptibility to infections.
Steroids, specifically corticosteroids, are often linked to weight gain due to their effects on metabolism and fluid retention. When taken, these medications can increase appetite, leading individuals to consume more calories. Additionally, steroids can cause the body to retain sodium, resulting in water retention and bloating. They also influence where fat is stored, often causing an increase in fat deposits in the face, neck, and abdomen. This combination of increased caloric intake, fluid retention, and altered fat distribution contributes to the weight gain commonly associated with steroid use.
Anant Ambani’s weight loss journey began with a rigorous 21-kilometer walk, setting a foundation for cardiovascular endurance, complemented by yoga, weight training and his diet focusing on zero-sugar, high-protein, low-carb foods and consuming between 1200-1400 calories daily. In 2016, Anant amazed everyone with his weight loss of 108 kilos in less than 18 months.
Anant and Radhika's lavish wedding ceremony unfolded on July 12, graced by numerous Bollywood celebrities, socialites including Kim Kardashian and Khloe Kardashian, and notable Indian political figures.
Following their wedding ceremony, the Ambani and Merchant families hosted a blessing ceremony on July 13 and a reception on July 14. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attended the blessing ceremony.
