Diljit Dosanjh unveils first look of 'Punjab '95', fans await powerful biopic
PTC Web Desk: Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has set the stage for his much-awaited film Punjab '95, offering fans a thrilling sneak peek of what’s to come. The actor-singer shared a gripping first-look poster of the film on social media, accompanied by a striking caption: "I Challenge the Darkness."
In the raw and rugged image, Diljit Dosanjh dons a simple kurta and turban, with a bloodied and bruised face that speaks volumes about the emotionally intense journey his character will undergo. Sitting on the floor in a contemplative yet defiant posture, Diljit's portrayal hints at a storyline filled with resilience, grit, and unspoken pain.
Before dropping the first look, Diljit had earlier teased fans with a post that read: "Much awaited film is about to be released in Feb. So we had to postpone the album. Stay tuned folks." Fans were immediately left eagerly awaiting both his music and his powerful cinematic presence.
The film, a biographical drama, is based on the life of the legendary human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, whose disappearance in 1995 remains one of the most controversial and unresolved chapters in Punjab’s history. Punjab '95 delves into the life and legacy of Khalra, who courageously exposed the extrajudicial killings of Sikhs by the police, before he mysteriously vanished.
However, the film’s journey hasn’t been without its hurdles. Last year, it hit a significant roadblock with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which demanded up to 120 cuts, including the removal of Khalra’s name from the film. Reports suggest the CBFC also urged the makers to reconsider the film’s title, Punjab '95, a direct reference to the year Khalra disappeared. For many, this has been seen as an attempt to erase the cultural and emotional essence of the film, causing a stir among critics and fans alike.
Despite these challenges, the makers—Honey Trehan and Ronnie Screwvala—have continued to push forward with the release, and the fervent anticipation surrounding the film only seems to grow. Punjab '95 is set to release in February, and it’s clear that Diljit’s portrayal of Khalra will be a defining moment in his career, one that brings light to a dark chapter in history.
