Deepfake video row: Alia Bhatt's deepfake ordeal sparks alarm over AI misuse following obscene video circulation

Deepfake video row: Joining the unfortunate list that includes Rashmika Mandanna, Katrina Kaif, and Kajol, Alia Bhatt has become the latest victim of deepfake technology. This disturbing video, currently circulating widely across social media platforms, has sparked serious concerns regarding the exploitation of AI.

The video depicts a girl adorned in a blue floral co-ord set, sporting Alia's face, and engaging in inappropriate gestures toward the camera. However, vigilant netizens swiftly identified that the individual in the explicit video is not Alia Bhatt.

This distressing trend isn't an isolated incident. Previously, an unsettling video emerged featuring influencer Rosie Breen on TikTok, partaking in the 'Get Ready With Me' trend. In this deepfake video, Rosie's face was seamlessly replaced with Kajol's, manipulating the clothing on-camera, momentarily revealing the true identity behind the digital alteration.

Similarly, in the case of Rashmika Mandanna, a deepfake video portrayed a woman, garbed in black, entering an elevator. Through sophisticated editing, her face was morphed to resemble the popular actor, blurring the lines between reality and fabrication.

Katrina Kaif faced a similar ordeal, encountering a digitally doctored image from her recent film, "Tiger 3." Originally featuring a scene of the actress engaging in a fight alongside a stuntwoman clad in a towel, the manipulated version presented Katrina wearing a revealing white top and matching bottom instead.

Deepfake videos exemplify synthetic media, wherein an individual's likeness is seamlessly superimposed onto an existing image or video, creating a false portrayal of reality.

This disturbing trend not only violates the privacy and integrity of these individuals but also underscores the growing threat posed by the misuse of AI technologies. The ease with which these fabricated videos are circulated underscores the urgent need for stringent measures to combat the misuse of AI and safeguard against the potential harm caused by such manipulative content.
