'Chamkila' release date out : The wait is finally over! The largest OTT platform Netflix announced the release date of the upcoming film ‘Chamkila.’

With the announcement of official release date, the upcoming film ‘Chamkila’ is all set to captivate audiences with its portrayal of the legendary Punjabi singer and songwriter, Amar Singh Chamkila. 

With a stellar cast starring Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles, the film is expected to provide a comprehensive portrayal of Chamkila's personality, his struggles, and his musical genius.

‘Chamkila’ release date 

Taking to Instagram handle, OTT platform Netflix announced the release date of Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh starrer ‘Chamkila, dropped the video and wrote, “Maahaul bann jaata tha jab vo chedta tha saaz, kuch aisa hi tha Chamkila ka Andaaz ! @imtiazaliofficial ’s #AmarSinghChamkila arriving on 12 April, only on Netflix!”

About film 'Chamkila'

The film presents the untold true story of Punjab's original rockstar of the masses, Amar Singh Chamkila who emerged from the shadows of poverty and rose to the heights of popularity in the 80s due to the sheer power of his music, angering many on the way, which finally led to his assassination at a young age of 27.

The highest record-selling artist of his time, Chamkila is still regarded as one of the best live stage performers that Punjab has ever produced.

The movie, titled "Chamkila," marks as the debut collaboration between Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh. 

Who was Amar Singh Chamkila ?

Amar Singh Chamkila was a renowned Punjabi singer, songwriter, and musician who gained widespread popularity for his bold and outspoken lyrics. Born in Punjab, India, in 1960, Chamkila began his musical career in the 1970s and quickly rose to prominence with his distinctive singing style and socially relevant songs.

However, Chamkila's career was tragically cut short when he was assassinated along with Amarjot Kaur on March 8, 1988, in Mehsampur, Punjab.

Despite his untimely death, Chamkila's music continues to be celebrated and revered by fans of Punjabi music worldwide. His legacy lives on through his timeless songs, which remain popular and influential.
