PTC Web Desk: In a significant legal development, the Karnataka High Court has granted permission to Kannada actor Darshan to travel across India despite being an accused in the high-profile Ranukaswamy murder case.

Earlier, Darshan was restricted from leaving Bengaluru and the jurisdiction of the session's court. However, his legal counsel argued that since the Supreme Court is also reviewing the case, he needs to travel to Delhi and other locations for legal proceedings.

Special Public Prosecutor Prasanna Kumar opposed the request, pointing out that Darshan had initially sought bail on health grounds, yet now wishes to travel freely. Despite this, the court ruled in favour of the actor, lifting his travel restrictions.

On February 25, Darshan, his partner Pavithra Gowda, and 15 other accused appeared before the Bengaluru local court, complying with their bail conditions. During the hearing, Advocate Sunil, representing the other accused, alleged that the police were pressuring his clients to turn approvers. He urged the case to be decided on its merit without coercion. The court stated that if a petition is filed regarding this claim, it would be considered. The next hearing is scheduled for April 8.

The case dates back to June 11, 2024, when Darshan, Pavithra, and several others were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and brutally murdering Ranukaswamy, a fan from Chitradurga. Reports suggest that the victim had sent offensive messages to Pavithra, objecting to her relationship with Darshan despite his marital status.

Darshan was released on bail on October 30, 2024, after spending 131 days in custody. Sources indicate that tensions between Pavithra and Darshan’s wife, Vijayalaxmi, over luxury possessions and public appearances fueled ongoing disputes. Their rivalry also played out on social media, dividing Darshan’s fanbase.

Renukaswamy, who supported Vijayalaxmi, had criticised Pavithra, which, according to police findings, led to his tragic death. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Police have challenged the bail granted to Darshan and others in the Supreme Court. On January 24, the apex court issued notices to Darshan, Pavithra, and five co-accused, seeking their response to the state government’s appeal.

As per bail conditions, Darshan and the other accused are required to appear in court every month.
