End of an era! Apple discontinues iPod after 20 years
Washington (US), May 11: Apple has stated that the iPod Touch will be discontinued, with the product being accessible 'while supplies last.' The company confirmed the news in a news post on Tuesday, saying that "the spirit of iPod lives on" in all of its devices that play music, such as the iPhone, iPad, and HomePod Mini. The discontinuation in sales of the last remaining model in Apple's lineup of portable music players marks the end of an era. The original FireWire-equipped iPod model, which debuted 20 years ago, was mostly used as a portable music player, and Apple continued to make models that were mainly used for listening to audio until 2017, when it dropped the iPod Nano and Shuffle. While some iPod fans consider the iPod Touch as the new classic music player, it also has a following among those who want an iPhone-like experience but don't need a phone, according to The Verge. "It became very clear to us that there was a real threat from mobile phones, feature phones. They were starting to add music, MP3 playing, to the cell phones that they were shipping at the time," he state. The first iPod touch was released in 2007, the same year that Apple released the first iPhone. Except for the calling features, it contains the same hardware and software as the original iPhone. With Apple giving up on its iPod line, Apple is eager to direct its market audience toward the tech giant's other products that offer music playback.'
