Elections 2022: Amit Shah to visit Manipur to campaign for BJP

Imphal (Manipur), February 22: With Manipur holding assembly elections next week, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is slated to visit the northeastern state on February 23. This will be Shah's first visit to Manipur after the dates for the Assembly elections were announced in January this year. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the north-eastern state on Tuesday and addressed public rallies in Imphal. As part of his agenda, the Union Minister is scheduled to address two public meetings in the tribal-dominated Churachandpur Assembly constituency in Manipur and will have lunch at the district party office-bearers' home. Amit Shah's first campaign in Manipur The second venue for his poll campaigning for BJP is the Kangpokpi Assembly constituency, which is home to a significant Gorkha population. After this, Amit Shah will hold a door-to-door campaign in Yaiskul Mandal and Bhamon Leikai. Even though the region is dominated mainly by the Naga population, it also has a significant number of Gorkhas. Amit Shah's first campaign in Manipur Speaking on the Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Manipur, the state BJP election co-incharge Ashok Singhal said, "We are expecting a huge turnout for the Union Home Minister's visit because BJP is committed to a peaceful and prosperous Manipur." Further taking a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his comment that the 'BJP and the RSS do not understand Manipur's culture', Singhal, who is also the Urban Development Minister of Assam said, "Those who do not have any understanding and culture of their own should not lecture us." Amit Shah's first campaign in Manipur Manipur will hold elections on February 28 and March 5 in two phases. The BJP, led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh, is seeking a second term in office with an absolute majority. The BJP has dropped all of its previous alliances and is running for all 60 seats on its alone.
