Days after the Mahatma Gandhi's statue was vandalised with graffiti and spray painting, the United States President said that the defacement of statue by the unidentified miscreants was a disgrace. The incident took place during the protests against the custodial killing of George Floyd. The statue of Mahatma Gandhi is across the road from the Indian Embassy. As per the report, it was vandalised on the intervening night of June 2 and 3. Likewise, Indian embassy registered a complaint with the local law-enforcement agencies. “It was a disgrace,” Donald Trump said at the White House on Monday when asked about the incident. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy took the matter with the US Department of State for the early investigation into the matter, as also with the Metropolitan Police and the National Park Service. Recently, the US president and First Lady Melania Trump visited India in February. The duo had spent time at the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the pictures of Donald Trump and the first lady with Gandhi's spinning wheel at Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad were seen hanging on the walls of the White House.
