Devotees ecstatic as India rings in Ganesh Chaturthi festivities after 2 years
New Delhi, August 31: After the time span of nearly two years, Ganesh Chaturthi is finally here. Every year celebrated with much fervor across the country especially in the State of Maharashtra, celebrations this year are altogether on different level as people are celebrating it almost after two years ever since the pandemic hit the country.

The festival is celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Ganesha, the God of wisdom wealth and future. On this day many people bring into their homes idols of Lord Ganesha and pray for fortune and good wealth and health.
The 10-day long Hindu festival holds major predominance as according to the Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha was born on Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. Ganesh chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi begun on August 31st and will end on September 9, dedicated to the birth of Lord Ganesha, son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Lord Ganesha is also pleasantly associated with modaks. While embellishing him with sandalwood paste and flowers, the idol is also offered coconut, jiggery and 21 modaks.

As per the Hindu mythology, Goddess Durga crafted Lord Ganesh out of clay and askedhim to guard her chambers where she took bath and not allow anyone to enter. Following the command, Lord Ganesha did not also allow Lord Shiva to enter and meet his own wife. Subsequently enraged over the argument , he severed Ganesha’s head from his body. Goddess Parvati got infuriated after learning about the incident. Hence she took the Kali avatar and threatened untether hell. When Lord Shiva learned the truth, he immediately commanded his men to get the head of a child after which his men returned with a baby elephant head. And this is how Lord Ganesha came to be known as elephant-headed God.
