Deoghar Ropeway Accident: 3 dead, 7 still stranded mid-air
Deoghar (Jharkhand), April 12: At least three people died and seven are still stranded mid-air in two cable cars after a malfunction of a ropeway at Trikut Hills in Jharkhand's Deoghar district, according to the latest update on Tuesday. The rescue operation is underway.
The majority of passengers were airlifted by two Air Force helicopters, while others were assisted in landing vertically. Manjunath Bhajantri, Deputy Commissioner of Deoghar, stated that the rescue efforts were being carried out by a joint team of the Indian Air Force, Army, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). For the rescue efforts, the IAF sent one Mi-17 and one Mi-17 V5 helicopter. Meanwhile, water and food are being provided to the trapped people with the help of drones, informed the officials. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, on the other hand, has ordered a high-level investigation into the ropeway accident. "I express my deepest condolences on the incident on Trikut mountain and the deaths in it. There will be a high-level inquiry into the matter," the Chief Minister tweeted on Monday. According to the Jharkhand tourism department, the Trikut ropeway is India's highest vertical ropeway. It is approximately 766 metres long.
